Billion Dollar Babies

With the BBC/ARTE co-production "Billion Dollar Babies", Sebastian Weis and Marcel Ozan Riedel cast a harsh light on a vast and highly lucrative environmental crime that until now stayed out of sight: the smuggling of glass eels. A film caught between driving, investigative reporting and wide images made for the cinema screen.

For the score I settled on a mix of driving, cold electronics and almost sacred vocals — choir, processed voices. For the end-credits song I brought in the countertenor Joël Vuik: a dark, ballad-like piece in the tradition of the troubadour. Billion Dollar Babies is my third film with director Sebastian Weis, after “Dollar Heroes” and “Bureau 39”.
